A Tribute to…
What does it mean to be original when your entire performance is built on imitation? Tribute bands exist within the space between originality and imitation, where identity becomes something that can be constructed and performed. This identity comes from a place of admiration and personal connection to a specific artist to the point of merging their public identity with one's own. They replicate not only the music but also the visual identity and performative gestures of the original artists, framing mimicry as a act of homage. ‘A Tribute to…’ documents the deeper narrative of what music can mean to a person and how passion and adoration can manifest themselves in a plethora of ways. Paying homage to your favourite band can go beyond listening to their music, but exploring your own identity through theirs – tattoos, hairstyles, and tributing their music for others. This is what this body of work strives to represent; the weird and wonderful love music can bring to one's life to the extremity of becoming a tribute act.
